Dine’ Equality, the largest Indigenous LGBTQ+ advocacy organization in the country is proud to announce our official endorsement of Zack Quintero for the Albuquerque City Council.
Mr. Quintero is running for District 2, an area that would represent students from the Navajo Nation attending the University of New Mexico, the communities of Tohajiilee & Ramah, and many Native families residing within the city limit. Diné Equality believes in uplifting young leaders to create greater change. Zack is the right leader who will hold City Hall accountable and ensure ABQ is the safest city in New Mexico for families to thrive.
“Zack will honor the sovereignty of our Tribal Nations and we need him on the Albuquerque City Council to be a fighter for all our families. The Navajo people believe in tearing down walls and leading with compassion and understanding,” said Alray Nelson, founder of Dine’ Equality. “We need young, effective leadership that will stand up against bigotry and hate. This is the year when we elect leaders who will bring good people together and take us forward. A vote for Zack is a vote for the future of New Mexico.”
Diné Equality is working alongside several tribal lawmakers around Indian Country to introduce inclusive legislation that will protect the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and two-spirit community from hate crimes and bigotry.
“I am incredibly grateful and humbled to have the support of Diné Equality,” said Zack from his Albuquerque home. “I am proud to share their commitment and values of community, inclusion, and dignity for all. I look forward to working closely with them to make sure we have a community that is safe for every person in our city.”
Our organization endorses leaders that will uphold our community core values and protect LGBTQ+ Indigenous lives. Mr. Quintero heads into a competitive run-off election on Tuesday, December 10, 2019. Polls close at 7:00 PM.
